Sprite Tourer SC - Discontinued? Why? Is it a good van for 4 (2 small daughters)?

Hello everyone.

I am new to the forum, and having married late and only now have 2 small daughters, am looking at replicating what my parents did for me and my 3 brothers....

Every holiday, we went touring in our Jurgens Magnificent and I can honestly say that the best memories were created there.

I am now looking for a van that won't break the bank and can sleep the 4 of us.

I have narrowed it down to the SW, SC, Echo kavango, Conqueror Commander or Companion. (Explorer, out due to info gathererd from friends who've owned them.)

Is the SC discontinued, and even so, is it any good? I wonder about the fold-out section?

Its ergonomics look great to me, and the price is favourable if one can get them...

I would really appreciate input from you all with vast experience.

Many thanks.

Reid

Not aware that the SP has been discontinued. I do however think that it would be too small for four. Even our SP only caters for three. Maybe the Bush Lapa? That is a heavy and expensive van though.

Hi, I have an sw tourer and just returned from 2 months in Namibia and botswana, and I would say that unless you plan to go into really remote, or strictly 4x4 zones, you may then the sw will give you much more space and comfort than any 4x4 caravan or trailer especially with the add a room and the awning extension . Much more fridge space, you are not sleeping under canvas and you can do dirt roads and get to most places people can't with a regular van.

I spoke to a dealer recently about the SC being discontinued. According to them, the SC wasn't as popular as the SP, thus they decided to continue with the SP and SW.

Depending on your budget, there is also a 2012 Conquer Companion for R190k in wwwe.wesellcars.co.za

Hallo Reid

Did you consider the BacTrax from Kennis Caravans?

Its a gravel/rough roader.

If you can't find a second hand one, consider buying a Swing (2010 and newer) with a modular chassis and let Kennis convert it to a BacTrax.

Easycamping goeie more.

Sorry, I have  to write in english.

The sw will cope with gravel roads. BUt, if there is bad corrugation, then, either you have to be brave enough to drive at more than 60km to overcome this, or extremely slowly. In Namibia it is possible to get around mostly without going on gravel roads. I would forget bout ai ais, it is run down and in the summer extremely hot. But, swakopmund in the summer is brill as is many other places. I think our favourite campsite was lake aobab about 70km south of Windhoek.

I hope this helps.

Ian
