Hi Ian,

There is Aquacade on the SA side.

Norotshama River Resort & Amanzi River Camp on the Nam side.

Bit up is Ai-Ais and one at the turn-off to the Fish River Canyon

Further up is Canon Roadhouse.

Then west is Kalkofen Lodge & Camp, just off the B4 on the road south before Goageb.

There-after is Aus and Klein Aus Vista.

North of Helmeringshausen is a farm Camp Beta and north of that is Duwisib Castle.

Soussusvlei (Sesriem Camp), Agama River Camp, Namib Desert Lodge and Namib Naukluft Lodge in the same area.

Solitaire Camp is further north, as well as Rostock Lodge Camp (No shade). From here do not take the C 18/19 to Walvis, which can be very bad, to Kuiseb Canyon. Use the alternateC 26 to Kuiseb Canyon (lovely scenic drive), then continue to Walvis/Swakopmund where alte Brucke is amongst the best.

White House is north of Grunau.

Geras Camp is north of Keetmanshoop. East is Quiver Tree Forest and Mesosaurus Camp.

From here I would push through to Windhoek, As I would not recommend Hardup Dam, or Lake Oanob Resort at Rehoboth.

11 km south of Windhoek is Monteiro Lodge Camp which are far enough away, but close enough for what you need. Urban Camp is well situated in Windhoek to visit Joe's Bierhaus which is a place that you must book if you want a table.

Spitzkoppe is near Usakos and worth a visit before Swakopmund.

Enjoy your trip,

Edge.

The Ai-Ais one might not be suitible for an ordinary caravan.

Why not Ai-Ais Jannie?  We went there a few years ago with a Kombi and Sprite on tow without any problems- the dirt road was quite good.  Have circumstances deteriorated?

Jannie

I am echoing this question by Fred. I had Ai-Ais listed on a Namibia tourplan with the Penta.

Have done the rough and offroad (limited) Namibia tour many moons ago and need to go back, but this time in comfort.

Namibian road conditions alter with the tourist flow.

The more tourists that drive the roads, the worse they get.

This is mostly due to over pressurised tyres and speed...

Hi Easycamping, Hardap Dam could be wonderful if staff took an interest in their jobs! The lawns around the admin buildings are watered constantly and are lush green, the camping and chalet area is sort of forgotten about, the grass that is there is dead and long, the trees look as if they are dieing, there are water leaks in the ablutions and we had to fix broken hinges on shower and toilet doors. Yes it is very dry and there is a drought, but there is a huge dam that they tap from, I feel it could be much better than it is. We stayed for one night, I do not think I would stay for longer. Enjoy your trip and safe travels.....

Hi Ian. I am planning a trip for 2019. More to Etosha as I will do the South another time. My feeling and information lead to NWR camps. Namibia Wildlife Resorts.

Thanks for all the advice. After nearly 2 weeks in the south I can advise the best road to ai ais is to take the bi from the engen garage for 37km then turn left onto the d316 for 82 km then left again to ai ais. The roads are perfect and a lovely drive. We have stayed at amanzi camp on the orange which is an amazing campsite and did a 3 day kayaking trip down the Ora he with them which was a fabulous experience . We were going to the hardap dam but the reviews of it are so poor we will pass and find somewhere else to stay en route to swakopmund.
