Hello guys, I need some advice. I have a Sprite Scenic 2001 and I would like to have an eazy setup awn on it. The problem is that the maximum straight line extrusion I have on it is 2.6 meters and it is far too short. Even 3.5 meters is shorter than the original rally but 3.5 will do. So the awning fitted on extrusion in a bag like Howling Moon leisure awn are out of question. An option would be Alu Awn or Eezi Awn 3.5 meters. If I go 15 cm lower from the top of the wall I can accommodate a 3.5 meters rail or casing.
Which one would you recommend? One that is easy to set-up on my own without help.
Thanks

I explored the option of fitting an easy awning to my caravan but was advised against it as the caravan workshop claimed the walls of the caravan were not designed to accommodate the stress and causes the wall to buckle and warp. So I decided not to take the chance and stayed with the standard rally awning. I also didn't bother to investigate the claim of warping and bulging.

Slower and lower is better than higher and faster!

I had a Howling moon awning 3.9 m the one in the bag on my Gazelle 610 for years without problem. Did not know that the Eezi awning would be a big problem.

They dont build the caravans the way they did in the old days.

Hello Global traveller, thanks for advice, I thought about it as well. My caravan was built in 2001 and has very thick plywood on the inside, actually double thick compared with the new vans. Of course a crank out awning like Fiamma would put stress on the wall which was not designed for it. An awning made by Eezi Awn will act more like the original rally, it is fitted on the wall and it has its own aluminium casing, the 1000 series can be operated by one person only. The problem with my caravan is that on top of the wall the original extrusion has no more than 2.6 meters in straight line but if I go 15cm lower I have 3.6 meters and I can fit the aluminium housed awning.
So to answer Froggy, the Howling moon , the one in the bag is not an option for me because I would be able to fit only a 2.5 meter one and it is far too small.

I understand.

The Gazelle was a double wheel and had length.

On Froggy I got one both sides.

Hope you come right

I had a similar problem with Krimp Varkie.  Wanted to fit a Fox Awning or Ostrich Awning to it, but they were both to long.

I went and had a look at them in person. Did abit of reseach on the net. Designed my own and got a seamstress to do the stiching for me.

The result was!

And about R6000 cheaper.

My advice would be, do your own thing.  Your bigest concern would be how does the uprite poles hinge and fold away. If that is sorted all the aliminium items you would need is available at NFM Pretoria.

Thank you for your friendly advice. I travel alone and when reaching a caravan site I am terrified I will not find any helper around. I have an original rally but I can not push it through the extrusion on my own. I decided to go with the Eezi Awn 1000 series which will cost R5000 fitted for the 3.5m awning. This model can be operated by only one person.

Hi WilSur, thanks for advice, it might work but I hate anything oily, lotions and lubricants.
You must be a nice and hard working Exclusive owner. Three weeks ago while I was camping in Pilanesberg I had a guy with Exclusive set camp next to me and wanted to use my braai on my site which was 50 centimetres away from my tent, he asked permission obviously but what was he thinking?
Hi Nico, my original rally goes down on the sides and I only have 2.6 meters straight line on top. Even if I was to modify the rally 2.6 meters is not enough and I would have to fit another rail (extrusion) lower but then I would have the bag hanging on the protruding wall light and door. So better to have the awning rolled in its own box not bag.

Goeie idee Nico.

There is NO mess !

  • Caravan tent groove lubricant
  • Waterproofs
    • Textiles, canvas, wood etc.

Silicone Spray (SS)

  • Mould release agent for moulding of plastic, rubber, metal, diecast and composite materials.
  • Lubricates guides, slide plates and tables in the food, textile and paper industry.
  • Waterproofs textiles, canvas, wood surfaces and leather.
  • Exceptional thermal stability – -75oC to 200oC.
  • Low vapour pressure – gives long life as a very thin coating
  • Chemically stable – not attacked by sunlight, ultra violet light, rain, sleet, snow, petrol, paraffin, gases, steam or corrosive liquids such as acids
  • Non-toxic – approved for incidental food contact by the American Food and Drug Administration
  • Non-staining – textiles and paper
  • Anti-static – prevents tracking on high tension equipment and insulators
  • Lubricating – superior to mineral oil in very cold or hot conditions.
  • Promotes free sliding of plastic, metal, rubber and wood components.
  • Non-stick – anti-adhesive separating properties for food, plastic or rubber moulding, and metal die-casting

A Multitude of Uses

  • Renewing the appearance of plastic goods e.g. car dashboards, brief cases and handbags
  • Lubricating of curtain tracks. A thin layer will not stain textiles
  • Anti-static prevents static build up in paper for printers
  • Caravan tent groove lubricant
  • Lubricates wood on wood, glass on wood, plastic on glass, rubber to rubber e.g. drawers, kitchen cabinets.
  • Knitting, sewing and textile lubricant, for cutting tables, shears, sewing machine tables and ironing presses
  • Prevent ski binding freezing. Prevents car door locks freezing
  • Softens, preserves and waterproofs leather
  • Machining lubricant for all types of plastic
  • Increases working speed and prevents discolouration when welding plastic in the packaging industry for ultra-sonic welding, heat sealing
  • Lubricant for installation of 0-rings and seals
  • Prevents accumulation of wax and glues on cutting and punching knives in paper industry
  • Reduces ice build up in refrigerators and freezers Improves sealing of rubber seals around doors
  • Anti-spatter for gas shrouded welding equipment

Hi Nico, from the looks of it, your caravan has a pop up roof and the extrusion is quite lower than mine so with you and your wife being tall it is not that difficult. Thanks for advice and please attach some pics.
Thanks Leon for understanding my situation.

Hi WilSur, where did you get this SS stuff from? Hope not from Germany because SS was bad news there.
Hi Ski, I hope you will not forget to put those pics you promised.

Thanks WilSur, I will give a try. Eventually I will come to my senses and use the original rally. I will make a query for a crank out caravan awning from China, for US $350. If shipping is cheap I will get one, no issues here with Chinese poor quality, you might find out Fiamma is getting them from China, they really look alike, motor or manual and all.

Hi Verge,

I think, if you have a rally awning, you should rather be looking at a way to make it work - a hell of a lot cheaper and also bigger.

At one stage, I was also looking at a pull out and soon realised that it was much shorter than the caravan, which would not suit us.

I have an "easy awn" which screws onto the caravan beading which has a nylon wheel - no mess. Usually on arrival, the missus cannot wait to go to the ablutions - when she gets back, I have already pulled the awning through and pegged the guy ropes - sometimes even have the sides up (no pegs - just slide in and clip to poles)
